Music has always embraced new technologies to fill new needs, usually brought about by virtuosic performers or adventurous composers, or an unstoppable combination of the two. Computers began their musical journey attempting to duplicate acoustic music, filling no needs of the musicians. Stand alone “computer music” compositions were the way. In that vacuum an explosion of possibilities came into being, and suddenly the computer was a tool that could make the impossible possible. Performance tracking, software synthesis, real-time manipulation of sound…all were new needs requiring new tools.
Every year those tools get better, and more incredible, and in this blog I follow their progress. I also share my personal compositions, software, and insight on the topics of electroacoustic music. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!
